Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a commitment between farmers and customers. Farmers offer "shares" of their produce and meats, and customers offer financial support in exchange. Typically, customers purchase their share a few months before receiving any product. This provides the farmers with a financial boost in the off-season and allows them to plan their crops accordingly. During the growing season, the farmers provide CSA members with a share of the weekly harvest.
The details for each CSA are different: Some offer full and half-shares, some offer working shares (you get to help pick your produce), and some partner with other local food producers to supplement their own offerings.
