Mansfield Schools Food Services Department is bringing local foods to the lunch table! With a CT Department of Agriculture Farm Viability grant, they were able to process local produce for students to enjoy throughout the school year.
With the grant, the Food Services Department was able to purchase equipment and hire a consultant to help launch the pilot initiative. After processing local vegetables from July to December, the Food Services Department racked up some impressive numbers!

Local apples are another big hit with everyone at school! Food Services Director Stephanie Richard reports, "Being able to carry local apples almost all school year long definitely makes a difference versus when we get our apples from other sources. School staff have even come in to the cafeteria to take advantage of our local offerings." |
